Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]SDM-16 is a novel, high-affinity, and metabolically stable positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracer designed for imaging synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) in the central nervous system. Developed by researchers at the Yale School of Medicine in collaboration with AbbVie, [18F]SDM-16 is based on the molecular scaffold of UCB-A and serves as a fluorine-18 labeled alternative to carbon-11 labeled tracers like [11C]UCB-J. Due to its longer half-life (approximately 109.8 minutes) and superior in vivo metabolic stability compared to other SV2A tracers, [18F]SDM-16 allows for the reliable and sensitive quantification of synaptic density. It is primarily investigated for its utility in visualizing and tracking synapse loss in neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease.
